It's time for a 1-week game Jam!

Genre: Narrative Wholesome Horror

While I've been hard at work on The Lancaster Leak, Shepherd's Eye, & Boo's Burgers (which you should wishlist), I've taken a break & teamed up with prominent horror voice actor Dyl In The Dark@dylinthedark (who wrote & directed) to release Movie Night. It's a classic Itch.io horror game inspired by Dyl's wholesome horror series. I hope you enjoy.

this game was a blast brother :D love from germany! ↓

El juego me hizo reflexionar xd

I was quickly getting tired of Amanda's yapping monologue, but the twist caught me off guard and gave me a good laugh

This was the MOST INSANE Horror Story TWIST EVER! Amazing JOB!

El final de este juego se lleva las palmas. Muchas gracias dev!

Fun lil unexpected turn for movie night. I honestly would love an anime of this monsters journey and friendship with Amanda but that's just me tho

This was a big plot twist.

I played this game with my little siblings, here is what they have to say:

5yrs(F): This thing was very cute.

6yrs(F): The part that was the scariest it was when the monster got us.

7yrs(M): This game is sucks because it was too short and the monster talked a lot. (Get a load of this guy)

12 yrs(F): This game was very unexpected, but the monster was very cutesy.

0yrs(?): not born yet.

I honestly didn't expect the spoopy guy to be that random, lol. Overall the jumpscare is great, you can see me shakin on the screen haha ( ̄▽ ̄*)ゞ

I really Enjoyed this game I didn't see where it was going but I liked that you showed you can do a different kind of horror.

Effective Scares and Tension

The game started strong, with the first jump scare catching me off guard. The creepy music and the task of finding and locking windows ramped up my anxiety, keeping me on edge. The second jump scare was even more effective, making me jump and close my eyes.

Harold's Unwelcome Appearances

Even the subtle appearance of Harold while heating up hot chocolate managed to startle me. The developer nailed the timing and placement of these scares.

Room for Improvement: Voice Acting

However, the voice acting detracted from the experience. It felt forced and broke my immersion. Using text instead would have maintained the eerie atmosphere.

Disappointing Tone Shift

But the biggest letdown was the abrupt shift from horror to a sappy, non-horror narrative. It felt jarring and disconnected from the rest of the game. I was invested in the scary story, only to have it veer into unfamiliar territory.

Verdict

"Amanda's Movie Night" had its moments of terror, but the tone shift and subpar voice acting held it back. If the developer had maintained the horror focus and refined the sound design, this could have been a standout title.

Seriously an amazing game that takes a different path then usual horror games. The beginning does a great job building up some scares and anticipation and the end is simply the best. If you want to see HAROLD in all his vulnerabilities, check out my video here! 10/10!
